Part of the series Empowering Communities to Take Control over their Health and Well-being: A Webinar Series, organised by the World Health Organization and co-organised with the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) and the Alliance for Health Promotion (A4HP) | Genève Internationale.

Juliette took a leading role in developing, organising and moderating this webinar, which brought together Professor Nicholas Freudenberg (CUNY), Iffat Elbarazi (FFPH), Dr Carlos Zarco (Medical Director of the Moncloa University Hospital in Madrid, Spain) and Professor Dan Pope (University of Liverpool). Juliette opened the webinar by presenting WHO’s approach to the commercial determinants of health and why community engagement is indispensable for addressing the commercial determinants of health: because communities are at the frontline of health-harming commercial practices, and because strong communities are at the heart of good governance for the commercial determinants of health.

The session was part of a webinar series that brought together experts, practitioners, policy-makers, academics and health officials across the globe to share their experiences, perspectives and lessons. The series covered how a wide range of community engagement practices apply to various determinants of well-being — including universal health coverage and primary health care, commercial determinants of health, social protection, socio-economic determinants of health, climate change, and digital literacy and transformation.
